Pool Party? Really?

Well, after all that hard gardening “work” over the Memorial Day weekend, they decided that it was time for a pool party. Just one problem: This is our pool! (I am so embarrassed that I cannot even look at you as I write this.) My humans got this pool for me when I was just a tiny puppy. Until this point, I had played in it twice. The first time I was with my humans. It was fun, but nothing special. The second time, my mommy (again, after gardening “work”) decided that a pool party would be fun. So she filled the pool, and my late canine sister Lexi and I jumped in. Well, something happened. Apparently I got a little wild and the pool party ended abruptly. (I refuse to share cannot remember all the details.) The pool was put away and did not come out again until this past weekend.
So my humans actually got into their bathing suits, poured some adult beverages, and proceeded to squeeze themselves into our “pool” . . . both of them . . . at the same time. And then they asked me to join them. Really? Needless to say, I was hesitant to become a party to this craziness. They finally convinced me to dip one paw into the shallow end. (Hey, wait a minute. It’s all shallow!)
Eventually, I put three hesitant paws into that little pool.
But I explained to anyone who would listen to me that I absolutely was not going to put that final paw into that silly little pool.
And that’s when my humans pulled the ultimate fast one on me. They tossed my beloved pink and purple squeaky ball into the deep end of the pool. I simply could not believe my eyes. I had to save my precious pink and purple squeaky ball.
Any previous reluctance to go for a swim vanished from my body as I dove in to save my cherished pink and purple squeaky ball. (Trust me, that fourth paw did eventually hit the water.)
Yes! A successful save! With any luck, that silly little pool has gone into hibernation for another four years. Keep your paws crossed. You never know when my humans might get a little crazy again.
OMD, Finnie here. I love our kiddie pool. I go nutso for it! That’s kinda funny that your peeps got in it too!!!
Maybe if I invite a friend (the canine type) to share my pool with me I’ll be more excited about it. Pool parties are just not that much fun with your parents. 😉 I think the heat from three straight days of gardening must have gotten to my humans. How else do you explain their little dip in that little pool?
*BOL*…oh Miss Harper Lee the tears are pouring down mom’s face she is laughing so much!!
I (Wally) also have a splash pool for summer time – I love it!! I jump in when it’s hot & chase any leaves that have fallen in or any toys mom & dad throw in for me. Sammy…well Sammy is convinced he needs water-wings before he can go in…he is also afraid of the “deep end” *BOL*
Oh my goodness – thanks for a pawsome post! And have a grrrrreat weekend.
Wally & Sammy
Maybe Sammy and I can just sit in lounge chairs and work on our tans. 🙂 You have a great weekend too!
Oh, super jealous!! The only pools here have been created by the massive amount of rain. Looks like you are enjoying the warmer temp’s 🙂
I wish we could send our sunshine and a little of our heat (but not the humidity ;-)) your way!
I think you succeeded! Finally warmed up today 🙂 Looks like we finally pushed those clouds back to the north where they belong 😉
That is certainly good news! Enjoy!
Well, that was a sneaky card to pull, seriously your favourite toy?
Dina
I know! Those humans can be really, really sneaky sometimes . . . like when they pretend to throw the ball just so they can see the confused look on my face when I run to retrieve it and it’s not there.
so hard to believe that we weren’t following each other! Just learned about you from the Human Rescues Dog Blog and you are just ADORABLE!!! I am following you now and am following you on Twitter too! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
Ah, Dakota, thank you so much. I love Human Rescues Dog, and now I love you, too!
I am just wondering if your mommy would get you a new purple and gold ball if her LSU tigers win the Big One this year!! If so, I’m thinking she might not want to get it wet!! 🙂 Humans are very entertaining.
Humans are definitely strange animals! I have an LSU football toy. My tooth punctured it and now it’s deflated (much like our last couple of football seasons), but I still play with it!
we might have to break out our “pool” this weekend for some action too! Maybe you can come to a “pool” party. Swimsuit optional.
The Big Dogs
Maybe if I see The Big dogs frolicking in the pool I’ll get the hang of it. And if swimsuits are optional, I say we leave the humans out of this. 🙂
We plan on performing this exact ritual with Tucker after we buy him his own pool. Hopefully I won’t have to fully submerge myself before he realizes he likes it! I will opt for the ball option! BOL
If you do end up having to submerge yourself, try pouring a glass of wine. It certainly helped my parents get over any inhibitions they might have had. 🙂
aaww sweets – pool parties are FUN. I could just see my cute pudgy little body rolling around in there… that is if it was inside out from nature 🙂 XOXO – Bacon
An indoor pool . . . I can just picture you now, Bacon!
That is too funny!!!! It could feel really good if you got in and layed down.
Hmmm . . . I’ll think about that. 😉
Oh! Golden LOVE it! Golden Thanks for reminding mom that she needs to get me a new pool. ENJOY! Golden Woofs, Sugar
Maybe we could just send ours to you. Only the humans are using it!
Thank goodness you saved your squeaky toy! Whew! I would not go into a pool of water either! My wooly undercoat would take furrever to dry. Nice cool grass in the shade sounds much better. Stay cool Miss Harper Lee. Woooowoooooooo! Ku
Cool grass in shade is heaven, especially compared to that silly little pool!
Oh, Miss Harper Lee, is there some office you could run for in your community? (Not dog catcher, certainly not) but maybe mayor…? You have a wonderful attitude, a sense of careful and necessary adventure. You’re a natural leader…and delightful to look at!
I treasure my happiness far too much to run for office, but being a princess might be nice. 😉
Oh, Miss HL! I think that pool is a bath time trick. You are wise to be wary. I wonder what your neighbors think – not about you, but about your giant parents in that thing! They are hilarious, but don’t let them trick you. Next thing you know, you’re all soaped up and getting a scrub down.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
My humans checked very carefully to make sure that no neighbors were out and about before they dove into the tiny plastic pool. 🙂
Matilda here. I am jealous of you Miss Harper Lee! I want a pool like that, and I want my mommy to go in with me. We are very hot here in NYC. We don’t have anywhere to put a pool. Hey! Idea! Why don’t you send it to us!!!
We noticed your extreme heat wave on the weather this morning. You are actually warmer than we are right now, so definitely I should send my pool to you. 🙂 Take care and try to keep cool.
Maybe Father Christmas will bring you a Harper Lee sized pool 🙂
I plan to sit on his lap and ask . . . make that beg. 🙂
LOL good thing you saved your ball. 🙂
There is no way that I would have let that evil tiny pool devour my precious pink and purple squeaky ball!
Oh man! Maybe if the weather gets just a bit warmer, the pool will be more enticing. Okay, probably not. 🙂
I think you’re right . . . probably not. 🙂
Does she like swimming in big pools of water, lakes, etc?
I sadly have never been to a large body of water or a pool. Feel free to chastise my humans for this. They say that at some point this summer I will get to go to either a pool or a beach. I am holding them to that. 🙂
Poor Pink Squeakie! Glad your were brave enough to recuse her. 🙂
I could not possibly allow my precious toy to sink beneath that dangerous water!
We tried that with our boys – except our pool was “Dora the Explorer”. Sam won’t touch water and Monty was highly offended.
Sam
I’m kind of with Sam on this one, and I have to say I can’t really blame Monty. 🙂
My golden loved the beach. It took him a few minutes to warm up to it, but by the end of the trip he was running all along the water and sand and having a blast. Pools were fun as long as they had a gradual depth entry. He did not want to just jump in a deep pool! I’ll admit, baby pools required a bit of luring and he’d be out as soon as he could as well. 🙂 I can’t wait to hear how your trip to the beach or pool go!
I promise that when (I hope my humans catch that word “when” and not “if”) I go to the beach or a pool, you will hear about it!
I loved this post, it really made me laugh! Especially the part about Mom and Dad squeezing into the pool with their adult beverages!
They’ve threatened to do that again at some point during the summer. Please don’t let any of the neighbors see!
I have the same pool 🙂
I hope you enjoy is more than I do . . . and I hope your humans stay out of your pool. 😉
Great fun, my gang has a pool too and they love to lay in it.
Maybe if my humans would move over and make a little bit of room for me, I’d like my pool, too!
Your humans sure know how to embarrass you don’t they. I know they were just trying to be nice. I won’t show you the Sundogs pool yet until you get over the embarrassment.
I can just imagine the Sundogs’ pool. I’m seriously thinking of packing my bags and running away to your house! P.S. My mommy says she wants to come too. 😉
