Taking a Break with Boudreaux’s BonzPosted: June 4, 2013
I have a little something that I need to confess. The last few weeks have been slightly overwhelming. From my B&B adventures in the country, to my Memorial Day weekend gardening marathon, to my Park Day 2.0 BINGO quest, I have had lots and lots of fun, but it’s all been just a bit non-stop. So today my human mommy and I have carved out some R&R time.
For my mommy, that means sitting down with The Paris Wife, which she started reading way back in January on her fantasy island getaway. She says it’s an excellent book, she just hasn’t taken the time to enjoy it. Well, that changes today.
As for me, I’ll be sitting back and enjoying some Boudreaux’s Bonz, the Chicken Gumbo Bones to be exact. (If you’re not from South Louisiana, that’s pronounced “BOO-droe’s Bones.”) These are some locally made doggy biscuits that my mommy found at our neighborhood human grocery store. Here’s the story behind Boudreaux’s Bonz from their website:
Boudreaux’s mama loves to cook. She bakes such delightful treats for her human children, and Boudreaux patiently waits on the rug in the kitchen for something to fall from mama’s culinary adventures.
Alas, two years went by and nothing for a doggie to feel good about. Sure, there was plenty of cookie dough and such, but nothing for a proud Cajun dog to brag about. Then one day, Boudreaux’s mama saw the light!
The flavors are based on treats Boudreaux’s mama whipped up for her humans:
Boudreaux’s Biscuits–the originals, are “mildly nutty and wildly sumptuous.”
- Cheesy Garlic Vacheries–inspired by the recipe for cheese straws from the famous River Road Recipes human cookbook, these are “hard for humans to resist.”
- Chicken Gumbo Bones–are a “taste of Louisiana.”
- Parrain’s Cheese Biscuits–made for the dog who is concerned about garlic breath, these cheese straws hold the garlic and add extra cheese.
- Peanut Butter Pirogues–these are named for little boats that we have here in South Louisiana, and they are made with real peanut butter. Yum!
So whatever your plans are for today, my mommy and I hope that you will join us in taking a break. Curl up with a good book, enjoy some tasty treats, or just spend a few minutes lost in a daydream. Remember, it’s important to stop and smell the roses.
