Fall, Finally

At last we get to enjoy cool temperatures, low humidity, and more time outside. People and pets in my neighborhood are venturing out from their air-conditioned bunkers, and life is slowly but surely returning to South Louisiana. Plus, we’ve dodged what looks like it will be the last tropical threat of the year. Hip hip hooray! Life is good. To celebrate our first finally-feels-like-fall day, my human mommy and I started the morning with a very special walk. I’d love to tell you about it now, but you’re going to have to wait until Friday. I can, however, tell you how we spent the rest of our day. After we got home from our special walk, Mommy took off–without me–in my chariot. When she returned home, the entire back of my chariot was filled with fall plants. It’s a good thing I didn’t go with her, because there wouldn’t have been anyplace for me to sit. We then spent the rest of the day outside, pulling old and tired summer plants out of pots and replacing them with beautiful mums, ornamental kale and peppers, herbs, ferns, and a croton. I was right by my mommy’s side the whole time she was playing in the dirt, and it was glorious.
Except for one thing: It appears as if we have been invaded by scarecrows. I’m not really sure what to think about this development. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that scarecrows have surrounded my house. This little one is standing guard by my breezeway door.
And she must have called this guy in for backup, because he’s positioned just a few feet away by the garage. I had no idea that crows were such an issue around my house, but apparently they are.
Because this little lady is guarding the back of my house. As alarming as the scarecrow invasion is, I must admit that thy seem to be doing their jobs. I did not see one single crow anywhere near my house all day long.
It’s too bad those scarecrows aren’t as successful at keeping the mosquitos away. Look at that pesky thing on the tip of my nose. Someone needs to tell him that summer is over, fall is finally here, and it’s time for Mr. Mosquito and all is little friends to move on!
So happy to hear that you have a break in the weather. Darn mosquitoes. They hang around too long!
It’s funny that they really weren’t bad all summer long. I guess they want to get out and enjoy the pretty fall weather too. 😦
Good to hear that fall is in your area too. We love fall even with all those crazy things the humans put out in their lawns this time of year!
Crazy fall and Halloween things are popping up all over my neighborhood. My daily walks are getting a little spooky!
Fall is our most favorite season! Hope those mosquitoes go away! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
It’s our favorite season, too. Mommy calls it our “second spring” because everything (and everyone) comes back to life after our long miserable summer. Yea!
You poor dear. Can you blow some of that fall weather my way? We are still up/down in the temps here in Georgia. XOXO – Bacon
P.S. You can keep the mosquitoes though. We still have LOADS of them – snorts.
Our weather humans say that warmer temperatures will return this weekend, so we are enjoying every moment of our temporary fall loveliness. Unfortunately the mosquitos are trying to enjoy every moment, too.
The bloodsuckers – snorts. XOXO – Bacon
They’re just evil little things!
Yes they are. Why oh why did Noah have to bring them on the ark? Who could have brought unicorns instead. XOXO – Bacon
I think your mommy is having fun outside again. Happy Fall!
She is having tons of fun . . . and exhausting me in the process. 🙂
The plants are beautiful and i am so glad you are having better weather.
It’s just amazing the joy that one pretty plant can bring to your day, and nice weather is a bonus. 🙂
We are enjoying our cooler weather too! Hopefully your mosquitoes will go away very soon!
Monty and Harlow
I am so happy that you are getting pretty weather, too, and I’m pretty sure the mosquitos will be making their exit soon . . . at least I hope so!
nice to see you were helping mom with all her garden stuff. what would she do without you? 🙂
She doesn’t ever want to have to find out. 🙂
Miss Harper Lee, how beauwooowooootiful you look in your fall garden! I hope those mosquitos don’t bite yoooowoooowooooooo! xx, Ku
Thank you, Ku. Mommy’s pretty good at swatting the mosquitos off of me, so I think I’m in good shape!
My Beauwoowooootiful Miss Lee, would you like to go to Misaki and Mollie’s Halloween pawty with me?
Oh, Ku. My heart is aflutter. I’ve never been asked to a pawty before. It would be a pleasure to accompany you to the Halloween pawty. Please let me know what I should wear . . . and what I need to do. 🙂
I’m going as the purple monster! Mwoomwooomwoooo! You could be my purple princess? Wooohoooooooo!
Perfect! Mommy will send an email to you later today or tomorrow about putting our picture together.
Mosquitos are gone here, but lots of flies still. Then again, we’ll probably be finished with fall in a week or two. Great photos, though – those scarecrows don’t actually look particularly scary!
I think these scarecrows may be the friendly variety. 🙂
Nasty skeeters! I hate dem too but I’ve I was a skeeter… I would love to land on your pretty nose.
Wags,
Ranger
Awww . . . if you landed on my nose, Mommy wouldn’t swat you off. 🙂
Hooray for fall!!! Do you get a freeze down there to kill off the mosquitoes? They are actually still bad all the way up here in NH, we have our fingers crossed for a frost tonite to hopefully kill them off. I bet your whole house looks beautiful with all the wonderful fall decorations!
We usually don’t get a freeze until at least late December, but its so brief that I think the mosquitos just hide and wait to come out on the next pretty day. I have to say that my mommy is going a little nuts with the fall decorating. It’s her favorite season. Today she came home with clothes and a hat to make a scarecrow to sit on our front porch. Really, Mommy? Another scarecrow?
The scarecrows and witches that pop up this time of year scared Dudley and made him quite nervous. He would have thought you very brave to have your picture taken with one. Of course, he was afraid of the camera, too.
Poor Dudley. For some reason, seasonal decorations don’t frighten me in my own yard, but walking in my neighborhood from now until the end of Christmas? That’s a different story!
Scarecrows! Mosquitoes! You’re practically living in a haunted house! Be careful, Miss HL!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Ha ha. I think you might be right about that!
OMG! I think I’m in love with your Golden! What a beauty. I love your pictures, so much character.
Thank you!
Boot weather here too!!! No more curly Q hair for you or me!!
My mommy did notice that my ears were looking a little more tame today. Cheers to that!
Those scarecrows look like they need de-stuffing *licks lips*. We cannot believe the audacity of that mosquito Miss HL!!! We hope it didn’t bite you! Mom HATES, LOATHES, DETESTS mosquitoes, possibly because the LOVE, ADORE, WORSHIP her and her sweet, sweet tasting blood. He is covered in bites all summer long despite her best efforts to keep the home mozzie free.
We can’t wait to hear all about your special walk on Friday.
Wally & Sammy
The mosquitos love my daddy, too. He must be sweet like your mom. They tend to leave my mommy alone. Do you think she might have vinegar in her veins? 😉
Fall is here too and our favorite season as well!!!! Sweet pic…your scarecrows are so cute!!!!
Today my mommy and I made a scarecrow to sit in the rocker on our porch. I think I’m going to like having him there!
Fall is the best season in my mind. You said it girlfriend , those mosquitoes can pack their bags and leave. Nasty bugs
Fall is my mommy’s all-time favorite time of the year, but this year the mosquitos are particularly bad. We were outside this afternoon and mommy just looked away for a moment and then looked back and there were three of them camped on my nose. Yuck!
Oh Ma is SO JEALOUS overs your new plants!!!! OMD, those are just FABulous!! And you are the pawfect ‘Vanna White’ to show them off in all their glory Miss Harper Lee!!! Wells, except for that frickin’ mosquito!! Doesn’t it know that there is NO landin’ on Miss Harper Lee???!! I’ll be right overs to scare them away….oh, and I’ll bring some cider (the good stuffs!)
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
I only expect the good stuff from you, Ruby. I’ll have a chair and some Off mosquito spray waiting for you!
We finally got a break from the weather too! Hooray! But no break from the crows. Guess maybe we should do the same and get some scarecrows… except that Rita is afraid of the ones we’ve seen at neighbors’ houses, so she probably wouldn’t like that too much!
Tell Rita not to feel bad. I’m afraid of all the neighborhood decorations too, but for some odd reason the ones in my own yard don’t bother me . . . which is good because we just added another scarecrow to our porch. 🙂
Time to cool off a bit?
Unfortunately, fall lasted all of four days and this week we are “looking forward” (ha ha) to highs in the upper 80s. Yuck!
Maybe you need a miniature scarecrow to wear on your head to scar the mossies away 🙂
Oh no . . . please don’t give my mommy any ideas. 😉
That would be so great if a scarecrow could scare mosquitos away! I have tons of them in the backyard, and the moment I set foot outside they are on the attack! No matter what spray I use nothing keeps them away!
And if the scarecrows couldn’t take care of them, maybe all the bat Halloween decorations could come to life in the middle of the night and do it!
