And on the Sixth Day of Christmas . . .
Posted: December 31, 2013 Filed under: Things I Like | Tags: Christmas, Dogs, Gingerbread House, Golden Retriever, Harper Lee, Pets, Thek9harperlee, Twelve Days of Christmas 32 Comments. . . I made a gingerbread house! Ok, so technically, I simply assisted as my human mommy made the gingerbread house.
But she definitely could not have done it without my support. I helped her open the little kit and I made sure that everything was there. This was her first ever gingerbread house. Can you believe she’s lived all these years and she’s never ever made a gingerbread house? Shocking, I know. She had the best intentions to make it before Christmas day, but you know how humans can be. They have all those silly human things to do before Christmas, and sometimes they just can’t get to everything. So anyway, she explained to me something about the Twelve Days of Christmas, and that the celebration actually continues past the 25th of December. As a Golden Retriever, I am all about continuing the celebration.
Back to the gingerbread house. I watched every single step. I sniffed every single step, too. I will tell you that the gingerbread smelled pretty good. A few of the little decoration sprinkles fell on the ground, and they were pretty yummy. I even got a tiny taste of the icing that held the house together, and it was pretty special.
I have to tell you that I was quite pleased with the final product. But then I started thinking. . . . Maybe next year we can make a gingerbread doghouse out of dog treats. I’m definitely ready to help with that project!
You can make a dog edible gingerbread house. That would be a really fun project. Maybe I should try that myself next year for Christmas? The human version you helped with came out nice and cute.
If we do make the doggy treat version next year, we’re going to have to put it somewhere just a bit higher, if you know what I mean. 😉
I adore the picture of HL watching you put the house together.
Yes, someone was quite interested in the ginger bread bones of that little house. 😉
It came out cute. It’s good you were there to help and supervise.
Thank you. I love supervising my humans, and I am very, very good at it. 😉
So cute! Love making gingerbread houses. That looks like an especially cute kit!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
The kit was from our new Trader Joe’s. Trust me, if it weren’t for that kit, we never, ever could have done it! Hope you’re enjoying the last few days of Christmas, and that your new year is off to a great start!
Miss Harper Lee, you are a lovely assistant! Happy New Year from Ku’s Mama and the whole pack! Ku sends xoxoxoxoxo to youwooowooooo!
Awwwww, Ku hugs and kisses to start the New Year. What could possibly be better?
Happy New Year! Hope 2014 is even bigger and better! xx
And all the same to you, Misaki! Puppy hugs and kisses to you. xoxox
Harper Lee, you are brilliant! Yes a doggy treat house would be a great project. I am very impressed with all the help you were. Do you also get to take it all down when the holidays are over? 😉
I think when it’s time for the gingerbread house to disappear, my human daddy will have that covered. I’ve seen him eyeing it. 🙂
I don’t think I ever made a house either so nice job to your mommy. I think you should make a dog treat house. Have a great New Years.
You must try a gingerbread house next Christmas. If my mommy can do it, anyone can . . . and you even have a cat to help you! All the best to you in 2014!
Dog treat house! Yes! I like this idea a lot. I will watch closely and then be ready to – 1-2-3-Pounce!! Yum…
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Ha ha! When we make the dog treat house, we’ll probably have to put it slightly above puppy-dog-nose level!
Such a big helper you are. I’m sure she couldn’t have done it without you!
Oh, no way she could have done it without my help. 😉
Great job on the gingerbread house! Happy New Years!
Thank you! Every once in a while, I walk by and give it a little sniff, but it’s still in one piece. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Miss Harper Lee.
Wags,
Ranger
Happy New Year to you, too, Ranger! And thank you so very much for giving me my all-time favorite toy in 2013–my Ally Gator with the magic eggs. Love!
Very nice and Happy New Year to you!
Thank you, and a very Happy New Year to all of you! Wishing you much happy hunting in 2014!
Louie is asking why wait til next Chrismas? Why not Valentine’s Day dog biscuit houses? Or MLK Day dog biscuit houses? Or, “Hey, it’s Saturday, let’s build a dog biscuit house Day”? Happy Tiger win today and best wishes for a wonderful 2014!
I like the way Louie thinks! You obviously found a very smart dog. 😉 We were pretty happy about the Tiger victory, too. And, although we always cheer for SEC teams in bowl games (well, maybe not Texas A&M, but that’s another story), we were shocked and just a little inwardly thrilled about the Sugar Bowl game last night.
Very cute! We’ve only made one – and one of the pups ate it.
Monty and Harlow
Ha ha! We’re a little bit afraid that my human daddy is going to eat ours!
Aww, how cute! Such a fun and festive thing to make. I had never made a gingerbread house before this year either. My daughter had gingerbread making at her preschool where the families came in and helped. It was fun!
So glad you got to make your first gingerbread house, and I can just imagine how fun the activity must have been with a classroom full of preschoolers and their families!
