Just a Pretty Day

Pretty day 2 thek9harperlee

Some days need to be celebrated just because they’re pretty. This past Saturday was that kind of day. After a string of dreary, drizzly, cold, and gray days, Saturday arrived with blue skies, bright sunshine, and relatively warm temperatures. It was just too wonderful to waste any time inside, so my humans and I decided to spend every possible minute outside enjoying the beauty.

We started our Pretty Day celebration with a walk around the Louisiana State University campus. Things were a bit busy for a weekend because some students are having to attend Saturday classes in an effort to make up instruction time from all the winter storm closures this semester, a very unusual situation for South Louisiana. After watching warm-ups for a high school track meet, we climbed the stairs of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for a bird’s-eye view of Tiger Stadium. I spied a gleam in my humans’ eyes as their thoughts obviously drifted to fall and Tiger football.

I managed to pull them away and we made our way over to the Parade Ground for a lovely view of the Memorial Tower. By this time it was getting a little warm; we were all a bit parched; and, as you can tell by the clock on the Memorial Tower, it was after noon.

So we continued our Pretty Day celebration at The Bulldog, a local pub that welcomes four-legged patrons and supports canine charities. Don’t worry, the beer was for my humans. I had a nice big bowl of cold water . . .

. . . and a tiny taste of Daddy’s beer. I know that many of you have experienced much worse winter weather than we’ve seen, and that it’s far from over. And some of my friends in the Southern Hemisphere have endured unbearable summer heat. My wish for all of you is that very soon you’ll have a day that’s just a pretty day, and that you’ll celebrate every beautiful minute that it offers. Here’s to your very own Pretty Day celebration. Cheers!

  1. That was a beautiful pretty day, Miss HL. I was pretty sure you’d get a taste of the beer…. 🙂 It’s snowing again here. Pretty in its own way because the new snow will cover up the dirty old snow. But no street naps allowed.

    Love and licks,

this time of year I envy you.. Summer not so much to hot and humid

    • You’re right that our summers are too hot and too humid. Plus, they’re too long! But we do consider ourselves lucky for most of the months of April and October, and on the occasional gorgeous winter day. 😉

  4. Most excellent. It’s good to celebrate everyday in any way you can.

Lovely pictures my friend. And the day was beautiful but not half as beautiful as you are 🙂 <> XOXO – Bacon

Miss Lee, you are as stunning as ever! Ku (making a surprise appearance!) 🙂

  7. Ooo lala..a taste of the beer! How was it?!

  8. wow…it sure must be nice to see GRASS………….BOL. I have forgotten what it looks like. Barks and licks and love, Dakota

    • Although our grass is brown and yucky and more like hay right now, you have reminded me to be thankful that at least I can roll around in it! Here’s hoping that spring finds you before you are completely covered by the snow!

A pretty lady on a pretty day 🙂

  10. We had a beautiful day in north Louisiana too! Maybe we can meet up for an LSU football game next fall! I love visiting the campus, it is soooo beautiful!

    • My human mommy is a bit partial (well, maybe more than just a bit), but she thinks that the LSU campus is one of the prettiest campuses anywhere, especially when the azaleas are blooming in spring. Meeting up during football season would be so much fun. Let’s get in touch when we are closer to the season to make plans. Geaux Tigers!

Oh, I love days like that! Warm & sunny days, visiting my old college campus, eating outdoors…some of my all time favorite things! And…it’s actually warming up here this week…above freezing and sunny today, woo!

What a great idea Harper…We think we will declare the next sunny day a “Pretty Day” holiday!! Smileys!

Looks like a wonderful day. We had the same blue skies on Saturday, but much colder temperatures….lol.

    • We feel a little guilty for all the whining we’ve done down here over our “cold” winter when we see your snow pictures. Wishing you more sunny days and much warmer temps in the very near future!

  15. ThatJenK says:

Looks like a great day! Campus was a nice walk location!

  16. It looks like you had a lovely day! Were you aware that ole Pistol Pete went to Broughton high school right here in Raleighwood! Spring tease here in Cackalacky for the next few days then temps dip again. But it beats the frozen stuff!

    • We didn’t know about that Pistol Pete connection. We actually had a bit of a summer tease today–the high hit 80–but a front is rolling through tonight and we’ll be back to winter by tomorrow morning. Make it stop!

  17. Oh Miss Harper Lee, you are as beautiful as ever and we are happy to have found you as you strolled around Death Valley…yes football season is a mere few months from now!! 🙂
P.S. We miss your emails but finally have discovered the WordPress Reader where evidently everyone but the old woman Slow has known about for months. 😦

    • So happy that Slow has discovered the WordPress Reader. Mommy just had to laugh at that. I don’t know why she’s laughing. She just discovered that all of my emails are now going to some other mysterious, top secret place on her computer. This has been happening since Thanksgiving, and she’s just figured it out. Of course she doesn’t have a clue *why* it’s happening or how to change it back to the way it used to be. Good thing I don’t pay her much. 😉

  18. What a nice walk with your humans. A girl needs a sunny day once in awhile.

    • It really was so pretty. That was our weekend spring tease, today our high went to 80 and we had a summer tease. But tonight another front rolls through and we are back to winter again tomorrow. Crazy!

While we wait for our own pretty day, we’ll just enjoy yours!
