Back to Work, But First . . .

After the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge, I decided that my blogging assistant/human mommy had earned a little time off. Who knew that blogging every day except Sundays for an entire month could be so hard? Our hats are off to those of you who manage to keep up that type of schedule. You are true blogging ironmen/women/animals. Mommy and I spent our off time doing . . . well, I’m not really sure what we did; however, I do know that it’s time to get back to work, but first . . .
. . . I have a few pictures to show you from our recent mini-vacation. I shared some photos in my “V is for VACATION” entry for the A to Z Challenge. Normally when my humans and I visit Butler Greenwood Plantation and Bed and Breakfast, we spend all of our time just relaxing at the B&B; but this time we decided to venture into the little town of St. Francisville for an afternoon tour.
Our first stop was a little shop called Grandmother’s Buttons. My human daddy and I stayed outside while Mommy went in to shop. The talented people at Grandmother’s Buttons make beautiful jewelry out of vintage buttons. Their St. Francisville store and workshop are housed in a restored 1905 bank building, and their creations are sold online and in stores around the world.
From Grandmother’s Buttons, we made our way to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. It was quite an uphill hike to reach the church site and the day was slightly warm, so I was somewhat tempted to jump into the beautiful fountain, but I managed to refrain.
We continued our tour with a leisurely stroll down one of St. Francisville’s historic tree-lined and, thankfully, shady streets.
Our next stop was Grace Church of West Feliciana Parish, the second oldest Episcopal church in Louisiana. Construction on the current building was completed in 1860. Just a few years later, at the height of the civil war, a Union warship captain who was delirious from fever took his own life near St. Francisville. His officers came ashore to request a Masonic burial ceremony for their captain. He was laid to rest in the Grace Church cemetery with full Masonic honors on what is now known as “The Day the War Stopped.”
Finally, we took a little walk around the West Feliciana Parish Court House, which was built in 1903, before heading back to the B&B for more R&R. So now the break is over and it’s back to blogging for my mommy and me. Looking forward to catching up with all of our friends and sharing photos and reflections from our adventures.
Miss Lee,
What a beautiful place to have a little R&R..
Thanks for sharing your walking adventures.
I love historical places too.

So happy that you enjoyed “visiting” St. Francisville with me!
You deserve some time off. Looks like you had a fun vacation!
Enjoyed the break, but it’s equally nice to be back!
I don’t know what’s prettier…the locations – or you in them!
Awwww, my Golden heart just went pitter patter. Thank you. 🙂
Mom is drooling over your pictures and is now drooling over the Grandmother’s Buttons website…honestly, we just don’t know what to do with her sometimes. It’s a good thing we’ve hidden her passport!
We’re glad you are back Miss HL – we were just thinking about you last night when we saw your IG photos.

You boys really know how to make a girl feel good. 🙂 My humans and I think it would be so much fun to show your humans our little corner of the world; but until then, we promise to share lots and lots of photos . . . the next best thing to being here!
We’re so glad you’re back, Miss Lee! Your vacation photos are great….what a beautiful place!
I’m with you, I admire those that can blog almost every day, I couldn’t even do it for a whole month like you did!
You are so sweet! To be fare, we did have Sundays off in April, but still . . . that little break was seriously necessary!
The old towns in our state really do have some fabulous architecture. Have you been to Natchitoches for a visit? It has some really cool places.
I’m embarrassed to admit that we have not made it to Natchitoches yet, but it is definitely on our list. So many places to visit, so little time!
Blogging every day is hard work. We did that in December. Now we are back to 5-6 times a week which is still a lot. You vacation looks real nice 🙂
Five to six times a week is definitely still a lot. I’m in total awe!
Great pictures, Miss HL. I think it would’ve been pretty funny if you just got hot and went crazy and jumped into the fountain. Hilarious. Welcome back.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Even my humans were tempted. I decided that if they could refrain from a fountain romp I could too!
looks like you had an amazing vacation!
It really was a great break. Now I just have to light a fire under my mommy’s rear end and get her back to work. 🙂
What a gorgemous place to visit. I loved that part of the country when we lived nearby. So charming.
Sorry I haven’t been around much…sometimes a vacation is needed!
There are so many interesting places to visit close to home. Too bad our less-than-optimum boiling summer temperatures, which start early and last long, cut into our exploring time. 😉
What a pretty area. Those churches are really neat.
My mommy has been visiting the Episcopal church and cemetery in St. Francisville since she was a little girl. It truly is lovely.
I love this post Miss HL. Such beautiful pictures of a beautiful town. We visited St. Francisville a few years ago & enjoyed the beauty of it, & the friendly people. It was delightful.
It makes me so happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit to St. Francisville. It’s one of our favorite weekend getaways.
