I sure missed you. First let me say thank you to everyone who joined me for the October Daily Photo Challenge, and thank you for all of your sweet comments. My human mommy/blogging assistant and I got a bit behind with our replies, but we read and enjoyed each and every single message you shared. After the challenges of daily posts in October, we took a little break in November. And what better place to recharge your blogging batteries than a beautiful beach.
Tallulah and I supervised the humans as they loaded the chariot and we all set out for Dauphin Island, Alabama. It’s slightly more than a two-hour drive from New Orleans, but when we arrived we felt as if we were a world away.
By the time we unloaded the chariot and settled into our home-away-from-home, Mother Nature was welcoming us with a breathtaking sunset.
I gazed out at the Gulf of Mexico and wondered what adventures the next day would bring . . .
. . . and then Tallulah and I crashed.
We were up with the sun the next morning.
Tallulah had her eye on the water . . .
. . . and before long her toes were in the sand. It was nearly impossible to keep Tallulah on dry land. She hopped over and through the waves, proved to us that she really can swim, ran along the beach, and then did it all over again and again.
As for me, I did my best Baywatch lifeguard impersonation and warned Tallulah and my human daddy to stay near the shore. Mommy says I was slightly obnoxious. I prefer to think of myself as a concerned and loving older sister.
Our second sunrise on Dauphin Island hinted at rougher weather to come. The island is no stranger to meteorological challenges. Just weeks before our getaway, Hurricane Nate made a little visit.
The storm’s winds and tidal surge covered the main road with about six feet of sand. The sand has since been plowed to the roadside and will eventually be sifted and returned to the beach, but for now it makes the road feel a bit like a tunnel.
The slightly rougher surf of our second beach day did little to deter Tallulah’s inner mermaid . . .
. . . but the cooler temperatures and overcast skies drove our humans to the beach house’s deck, where I caught up on some much-needed sleep after a busy October and Tallulah kept an eye to the sky as she tracked every single pelican and seagull that flew overhead. The poor girl might be slightly confused about exactly what it means to be a bird dog.
We watched the sun set on our last full Dauphin Island day with a determination to return as soon as possible. The little barrier island off the coast of Alabama was the perfect place to get away from it all and recharge before a busy holiday season . . . and it was the perfect springboard to bet back to blogging.
Looks like a fun little vacation. We all love to get into the water and swim too.
It was the perfect getaway, Emma. I wish Tallulah and I had more opportunities to swim. It’s great exercise and leads to the best napping ever!
What a beautiful vacation! Glad you had a great time.
It really was a beautiful spot. As you can tell from the photos, my human mommy was slightly obsessed with the sunrises and sunsets. I have to say they were spectacular . . . even if those sunrises were a bit early for me. 😉
aaww sighs that beach was as beautiful as you sweet friends. So lovely for sure! There is nothing like the renewal of one’s soul at the beach. XOXO – Bacon
There’s just something about the sound of the waves and the sand between your toes that’s good for the soul, Bacon. We’ll definitely do it again next fall, if not sooner. 🙂
Welcome back, sweet girls! What a rejuvenating place to visit. Those sunsets! Oh-my. 😍
Thank you! It’s so good to be back. The sunsets really were something special. And the last night we were there a huge storm blew through. The sound of the wind and the waves was magical.
So jealous. There’s nothing quite like the lapping of waves to sooth the soul. But selfishly, glad you guys are back. 😍
I’m glad you had a relaxing time away, and now you have put the beach bug in my pants. 🙂
The beach bug is always in my human mommy’s pants. 🙂 It’s her happy place, and after our Dauphin Island weekend I can certainly see why. ❤
It’s my Mom’s happy place, too. ~Lucy
What a beautiful get away. Glad you all enjoyed yourselves 🙂 Great life guarding Miss Harper Lee!
I obviously took my lifeguarding duties very seriously. Fortunately it was a quiet weekend at the beach . . . except for my barking, of course . . . so I don’t think I irritated too many people. 😉
How refreshing! I could have used a break, too, but it just couldn’t happen. looking forward to more posts from you girls!
I hope seeing the photos of our sunrises and sunsets gave you a vicarious break. You may have even been able to hear the waves and smell the salt air. That’s my wish for you, anyway. ❤
Oh yes! And feel the breeze, too.
We enjoyed your photos Miss Harper Lee. So glad you got the needed break at such a wonderful place. Did you bring home some white sand? You did such a wonderful blogging job in October so you really deserved this. I can’t imagine you bossy Harper Lee.
I can be quite the mother hen, and Mommy’s tempted to do one of those DNA tests on me because she thinks I might be 3% herder. About the sand, the humans hosed us down after our beach adventures, so the sand we brought home was minimal. 😉
A DNA test would be interesting. Our Bear is kind of a mother hen too and he’s a golden retriever. But we love that about him. Sounds like you’ll get to go to the beach again since you were such good girls. ☃️🎄
Oooooh, your Dauphin Island pics were a real blessing.
We’re trying to get caught up on work in Belhaven, NC with cold weather coming in. So sorry we’re not farther south already. But seeing beautiful goldens on the beach is at least some encouragement. 🙂
A front blew through on our last night at the beach. Our walks the next morning were like Arctic adventures . . . well, to southern girls, anyway. 😉
Great job watching over your dad and sister, Miss HL. Dauphin Island looks like a great place to get away from it all!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
It was the perfect getaway, and I was the perfect lifeguard. Didn’t lose a single member of the family. 😉
OMD!!!!!! HOW FABULOUS!!!! I am soooo jealous! okays, not of the water, cause no WAY am I gettin’ these FABulous furs wet on purpose, butts the amazin’ beach and beach house and sunsets! WOWSA! You gurls look beautifuls, and I hopes you had tons of funs, and found some stinky stuffs to roll in….oh waits, that would have been me…I hopes you found some burdies to chase! ☺
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
My human mommy kept an eagle eye out for potential nasty stuff and she was quick on the leash jerk to make sure that we didn’t get to experience the putrid. She is no fun!
WELCOME BACK!!!!!! WE MISSED YOU!!!!! What a fun vacation you guys had! The photos are so beautiful! I’m sure jealous you guys got to hang out at the beach! That’s one of my favorite places to be!
Thank you! The beach is beyond fabulous: so many birds, so many smells, so much relaxation, and the mesmerizing sound of those waves. I’m so ready to go back . . . after winter. 😉
Take me with you!! BOL!
We did miss you, but we can’t blame you for wanting to take a blogging break, especially since you got to take it in that gorgeous place!
I think breaks are pretty important. Everyone needs a little battery recharge every once in a while!
