HL Does NOLA from A to Z: C is for CAMP BOW WOW

C is for Camp Bow Wow. If you’re a human, this one might not be high on your New Orleans sightseeing list. But if you’re a dog, Camp Bow Wow is a must. It’s definitely one of my favorite places in the city. New Orleans has two Camp Bow Wow locations. One is in an area known as Mid-City and the other is in the Irish Channel. My Golden little sister, Tallulah Bee, and I are Irish Channel campers.

Like all of Camp Bow Wow’s day and overnight campers, Tallulah and I had to complete a half-day interview. (My human mommy joked that she felt like the mother of a five-year-old human child interviewing for kindergarten . . . but, even if she won’t admit it, she was a little nervous that we wouldn’t be accepted. Silly Mommy. We aced our interviews.) The counselors–that’s what they call the nice humans at Camp Bow Wow–use the half-day interview to make sure that each dog’s temperament is well-suited to the environment. You wouldn’t want a camper who plays practical jokes on his or fellow campers or one who gets homesick.

Campers are assigned to different indoor-outdoor areas of the facility based on size, and counselors keep an eye on things in each of the areas. Overnight campers have a choice of accommodations: cabins or luxury suites. My sister and I share a cabin on our overnight stays. I have to say I find the cabins to be pretty luxurious, so I can’t imagine what a suite would be like. There are even live webcams of the play areas and suites so doggy parents can keep an eye on their pups. You can click here for a link. WARNING: Camper Cams are totally addictive. If you’re at work or have chores that you need to do, DO NOT click on the link! You’ve been warned. 😉
