October Photo Challenge Day 24: HOODIE

I don’t mind wearing a stylish bandana. In fact, I quite like a stylish bandana. But I am not . . . repeat AM NOT . . . a fan of wearing actual clothes. And I do not . . . repeat DO NOT . . . like to have things on my head. My personal photographer (who also happens to be my human mommy and who also happens to owe me a ton of treats for this) took about 50 photos trying to get some semblance of an animated look from me. Not. Going. To. Happen. This was my look in every single photo. On the bright side (work with me here; I’m trying to make the best of this), I do like supporting my favorite college football team. My LSU Tigers have really come through in the last three weeks, and I couldn’t be more proud of them . . . even if my face doesn’t quite show my excitement. 😉 Also, my friend Scotty the Scarecrow is back for an autumnal visit. Hey, Scotty, I could use a little sip of that Dixie Beer right about now.
October Photo Challenge Day 15: YOUR NIGHT

Saturday started with a Visiting Pet Program outing to see my friends at Colonial Oaks Living Center. I stayed true to our VPP motto–Bringing Love and Leaving Smiles–as I went from room to room to see the residents. I also visited with the staff, who needed a little cheering up after a sad week. There was no time for a nap when I got home, because my LSU Tigers had an important football game against the Auburn Tigers . . . or War Eagles . . . they can’t quite decide who they want to be. My Tigers found themselves in a slight scoring deficit early in the game, but I didn’t give up on them and they rallied to capture the win. It took a lot of effort on my part to get that victory for my team. I was tired, but I had one last social engagement for the day. Tallulah and I closed out the night by accompanying our humans on a little Magazine Street stroll to celebrate New Orleans’ Art for Arts’ Sake. We visited with artists, saw lots of costumed humans who were getting a jump-start on Halloween, and stopped into our favorite watering hole where our human mommy enjoyed the air conditioning, our human daddy caught up on college football scores, and Tallulah and I did what we usually do: attracted and reveled in attention. By the time we returned home, I was a bit exhausted. I curled up on my blanket on the couch, which is kind of a special treat for me, and I said goodbye to a busy day and hello to a relaxing night.
Tomorrow’s photo challenge is BEST FRIEND. I’m pretty sure you can guess who that’s going to be. 🙂
October Photo Challenge Day 7: OOTD
Posted: October 7, 2017 Filed under: Things I Like | Tags: #octoberphotochallenge, Dogs, Golden Retriever, Harper Lee, LSU, LSU Football, LSU Tigers, October Photo Challenge, OOTD, Outfit of the Day, Pet Photography, Pets, Tallulah, Thek9harperlee 20 CommentsMy human mommy/blogging assistant is a bit of a geezer, so she looked at today’s October Photo Challenge prompt and thought, “What in the world is OOTD?” She could have asked me. I’m hip. But instead she asked the Google. The Google knows everything. Turns out OOTD stands for OUTFIT OF THE DAY. Duh. This one was easy for us. You see, today my LSU Tigers are playing the Florida Gators in football. That means that Tallulah and I are donning our LSU bandanas to lend moral support to our team. And boy do they need moral support. It’s been a bit of a rough season. As I dictate this to my personal typist/human mommy, the Tigers are barely holding on to a lead. If the Tigers don’t win this one, our OOTD for next week’s game might be a couple of paper bags over our heads.
Update on Nate: Nate is now a hurricane and he’s closing in on the coast. The projected path is to our east, which is a good thing . . . for us anyway. We’ve had very little rain so far, which is another good thing. And we still have power, which is the best thing of all. Conditions will get a little tricky into the night, but at this point we’re thanking our lucky stars. Hopefully we’ll still have power tomorrow so we can share our TREAT post with you. Even if we don’t have power, we’ll still be having a TREAT . . . because I say so. 😉 P.S. You would think that my personal photographer/human mommy could have gotten the Tigers on the TV in that photo above. Think again. 😉
On the Sixth Day of Christmas: Oh, LSU
Posted: December 30, 2014 Filed under: Things I Like | Tags: Christmas, Dogs, Golden Retriever, Harper Lee, Irish, LSU, LSU Football, LSU Tigers, Music City Bowl, Notre Dame, Notre Dame Irish, Pets, Sixth Day of Christmas, Thek9harperlee, Twelve Days of Christmas 8 CommentsAnd on the sixth day of Christmas . . . we interrupted the holiday season to celebrate our LSU Tigers. My humans and I were super excited to watch the Tigers take on the Notre Dame Irish in the Music City Bowl. I temporarily changed from my Christmas collar to my LSU collar and special gameday bandanas. My humans pulled out their purple and gold clothes, and the LSU wreath even came out for a brief appearance.
We certainly did our part, but on this particular day our Tigers came up just a little short. It’s a tough ending to a challenging football season. Fortunately, though, we still have six more days to enjoy the Christmas season . . . and that’s a season that never disappoints.
Where in the World Was Harper Lee?

I couldn’t quite put my paw on it, but something was up. Mommy was spending a lot of time in the kitchen. At first she was making human food . . . not that interesting. And then she started making dog treats, which really got my attention.
She carefully packed all that human food and those yummy-smelling dog treats into this big red box. Wherever that big box was going, I wanted to go with it.
Then my travel crate appeared. I was definitely going somewhere . . . hopefully with that red box filled with dog treats.
My humans spent a lot of time studying this book. (Just for the record, my humans also looked at maps on the computer and on their phones. They’re not that old.) Hmmmm . . . why would my humans need to look at maps? Were we going somewhere new?
And then Mommy pulled out this little accessory. Could it really be true? Were we really going to the beach? Was I about to check an item off of my Golden Bucket List? I didn’t dare get my hopes up, but I must tell you that I was starting to get more than a little excited.
I was slightly less excited when, exactly one week before Thanksgiving, my humans gently nudged me prior to the break of dawn and whispered, “Miss Harper Lee, it’s time to wake up so we can start our excellent adventure.” It was still dark when we loaded my chariot. The chickens across the street weren’t even awake yet. That didn’t seem to bother my humans. We were off, and I was pretty happy that I have chauffeurs and I could get a little more sleep.
It seemed as if we had just pulled out of the driveway when my chariot stopped. My humans were oddly excited about something. “Wake up, Miss Harper Lee. We’re in Mississippi. You’ve never been to Mississippi before. Wake up so we can take a picture of you in front of the Welcome to Mississippi sign.” Naturally, I obliged. I knew from looking over my humans’ shoulders as they perused the road maps that Mississippi has beaches. Was this our destination? Apparently not, because after a few quick clicks of the camera and then several minutes of walking around while my humans said, over and over again, “Go potty, Miss Harper Lee. Go potty,” we were back in the chariot and back on the road.
Next stop: Alabama. Fortunately for me, the state welcome center was closed, so I got to sleep a few more miles before we reached the temporary welcome center. The nice welcome center lady invited me in, despite the fact that my daddy was wearing an LSU sweatshirt. Alabama and LSU are huge football rivals. I guess the welcome center lady was feeling charitable because Alabama beat LSU this year. Anyway, Mommy spotted this big mural and said, “Miss Harper Lee, sit here and practice your beach pose.” Yes! I knew I was going to the beach! I couldn’t help but smile as mommy snapped my picture. And then we got back into my chariot and continued to drive.
At our next stop, I saw this sign. I was in Florida . . . land of sun and sand. Miles and miles of beaches. When would I feel the sand between my toes? When would I frolic in the waves? Who else would be there? And just exactly where were we headed? Stay tuned . . .

Countdown to Kickoff: Raise the LSU Flag
Posted: August 29, 2014 Filed under: Things I Like | Tags: Dogs, ESPN, GameDay, Golden Retriever, Harper Lee, LSU, LSU Football, LSU Tigers, Pet Photography, Pets, Thek9harperlee 25 CommentsWell friends, in just a little more than 24 hours, my LSU Fighting Tigers will kick off the 2014 college football season. To say that the level of excitement at my house is off the charts would be an understatement. Mommy has planned a lovely brunch for the humans to enjoy during ESPN College GameDay; the refrigerator is stocked with adult beverages; and the pregame dinner menu is set. Mommy has painted her nails purple and laid out her gameday attire. You’ll be happy to know that Daddy has not painted his nails purple, but his gameday outfit is ready to go. And, of course, I am all set with my tailgating treats, LSU collar, Tiger bling, and bandanas for both halves of the game. We’ve raised the LSU flag . . . and we are ready for some football!
Thank you so much for joining me on my countdown to the start of LSU’s football season. If you don’t have a favorite college team, I hope you’ll consider pulling for the LSU Tigers. If you do have a favorite team, then I wish you the best of luck this season . . . unless, of course, you’re playing my Tigers. 🙂 Geaux Tigers!
Countdown to Kickoff: More Football Fashion
Posted: August 28, 2014 Filed under: Things I Like | Tags: Dogs, Golden Retriever, Harper Lee, LSU, LSU Football, LSU Tigers, Pet Photography, Pets, Thek9harperlee 22 CommentsYou really didn’t think I would limit my football fashion to just a collar and a little bling, did you? After all, this is the first LSU Tigers game of the season. A girl needs wardrobe options for such a special event. So I’ve narrowed my looks down to this: the tiger-striped bandana for the first half and the purple and gold personalized bandana combo for the second half. I am so ready for Saturday night. Geaux Tigers!

Nothing says team spirit quite like an LSU wreath . . . and a Golden Girl!*
*The human Golden Girls are members of the LSU Tiger Band’s prestigious dance line. I like to think of myself as an honorary Golden Girl. 🙂

Countdown to Kickoff: Tasty Tailgating Treats
Posted: August 26, 2014 Filed under: Things I Like | Tags: Blog Hop, Dog Treats, Dogs, Golden Retriever, Harper Lee, Healthy Dog Treats, Homemade Dog Treats, LSU, LSU Football, LSU Tigers, Pet Photography, Pets, Tasty Tuesday, Thek9harperlee, Treats 29 CommentsWho says college football tailgating is just for humans? Dogs enjoy a tasty treat before the game just as much as anyone, so my human mommy and I whipped up a little something for me to share with all of my canine friends before the big LSU Tigers season opener this Saturday.
To make these tasty tailgating treats, we turned to a couple of recipes that we’ve used before: Happy Hip Bones Treats from 3mbakery and cream cheese frosting from Wear.Wag.Repeat. (You can click here and here for links to the recipes.) I was in charge of quality control, and a I can assure you that the combination of oat flour, peanut butter, turmeric, ginger, and apple cider vinegar more than met my very high standards.
While I supervised watched, Mommy cut the rolled out dough into footballs, football helmets, and of course L-S-U. And then we popped the treats into the oven and waited for an eternity 30 minutes.
I let Mommy decorate the golden cookies with purple cream cheese frosting . . . perfect colors for an LSU tailgate. Now Mommy would have you believe that she planned for the treats to be gold, but it was just a happy coincidence thanks to the turmeric. She thinks that might be a sign of good things to come for our Tigers this Saturday. She thinks funny things like that when it comes to football.
But I won’t make too much fun of Mommy’s silly football superstitions because she made this extra special cookie just for me, HL. It was gone in one bite. Yummy!
We’ve packaged our canine tailgating treats and will deliver them over the next few days so that all of my doggy friends will have a little something to enjoy before the big game. Just a word of caution for my friends: Saving these tasty treats for Saturday may prove to be a bit of a test!
Today, I’m participating in the Tasty Tuesday blog hop, hosted by Kol’s Notes and Sugar the Golden Retriever. You can click on the link below for more yummy recipes and tasty treats.
