Countdown to Kickoff: Football Fashion

Countdown Football Fashion edit thek9harperlee

I’m continuing my countdown to the first LSU Tigers football game of the season with a super important component: football fashion. Even if you’re not in the stands (so far my humans have not figured out a way to sneak me into Tiger Stadium; I’m a little big and hard to hide), it’s important to dress in a way that shows absolute support for your team. I have three very nice collars. They’re all purple. Two of them also have touches of gold. (Did I mention that my team colors are purple and gold?) But only one collar actually says “LSU.” So naturally in anticipation of the first big game of the season I have chosen to wear this special collar. And I think my blingy Tiger tag is a nice touch, don’t you?

Black and White Sunday: Countdown to Kickoff

B&W 8-24-14 edit thek9harperlee

Finally . . . less than a week until my LSU Tigers start another college football season. All week I’ll be counting down to kickoff with football fashion, tailgating, and decorating tips . . . doggy style.

Are you ready for some football? I know I am!

Thank you to Black and White Sunday Blog Hop hosts Dachshund Nola and Sugar the Golden Retriever.

Callin’ Baton Rouge*

Red Stick thek9harperlee

Quite a while ago, I was asked by Shaye at Simply Shaye: Living Life One Day at a Time to write a post for DogVacay that shows how I represent my hometown in a fun and quirky way. My hometown is Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Baton Rouge is French for Red Stick, so obviously as a dog I just love a city with stick as part of its name. Baton Rouge is a great little city for dogs. We have lots and lots of public parks for walks and fun; and when we get tired of walks in the parks, there’s always the Mississippi River levee. We’re welcoming a growing number of dog-friendly restaurants, and autumn is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor dining in the Red Stick. Baton Rouge is home to the Port of Baton Rouge on the Mighty Mississippi River, and we’re the state capitol of Louisiana.

But  more than anything, Baton Rouge is a college football kind of town. We are home to Louisiana State University and Southern University. A couple of weeks ago, both schools celebrated homecoming, which made me start thinking about how much I would love to be LSU’s homecoming queen. I looked into it, and apparently I don’t qualify. Something about having to be a full-time student. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the fact that I have four legs, floppy ears, and a tail that wags.

So I decided that I’ll stick to being a super fan. Honestly, I think it just might be a whole lot more fun than being a homecoming queen.

This is a big week for LSU football fans in Baton Rouge. We call it Bama Week–the week that our Fighting Tigers take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Frankly, sports fans, we face a bit of an uphill battle. We’re in a rebuilding year (that’s what they all say, right?), and our Number Thirteen-ranked Tigers have to travel to Tuscaloosa to face the Number One-ranked Tide. Most of the sports pundits have jumped to January and already have Alabama playing in (if not winning) the final BCS championship game. But here in Baton Rouge, hope springs eternal. After all, Baton Rouge is a college football kind of town, so in the middle of the week hope always springs eternal that our LSU Tigers can roll the Tide when Saturday night comes around. Wish us luck!

*The title of this post comes from a Garth Brooks song that’s played in Tiger Stadium before the start of every LSU football game. I hope you’ll click here to listen to the song and see a great video of some beautiful scenes from South Louisiana, Baton Rouge, Louisiana State University, and Tiger Stadium. Enjoy, and Geaux Tigers!
